Black Belt Academy

Black Belt Academy has continued to maintain an acute awareness of the developing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic since the dissemination of our last newsletter to all students, families, and staff. All of us here at Black Belt Academy have remained vigilant in the preservation of safety, health and wellness towards all our students, staff, and families. As the COVID-19 virus has significantly impacted our local and national communities, we want to share with you our plan of action for Monday, March 23rd  through Saturday, March 28th . In preserving accordance of the guidelines, we received from local and state health and government officials, Black Belt Academy has determined the following decisions:
Effective March 23, 2020, our Before and After Care (AMP) Program will operate as a martial arts day camp for our member students and children who have parents/guardians who are classified as emergency, medical, and essential personnel. This includes first responders (fire, police, and paramedics), as well as doctors, nurses, and active duty military. Our school will open at 6:00 am for parents/guardians to drop off children. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to pick up children as early as possible each day as we are implementing and enforcing a rigorous sanitization program at the Academy.
Effective Monday, March 23rd, all TKD classes (AM or PM) will be cancelled until further notice. The purpose of our cancellation ensures the utmost safety for all our students and staff. We will promptly apprise all students, families, and staff of any imperative updates periodically throughout next week (March 23-28).

The Academy would also like to extend the option of individualized Belt Promotion Testing for students who have not yet completed their Belt Promotion Examination. Beginning March 23rd through March 27th, we are offering Belt Promotion Testing appointments between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. If you and/or your student elect this option, please contact the Academy office at 301.737.4553 to set up your preferred testing appointment.
If your child is sick or illustrates symptoms of coughing, sneezing, shortness of breath, and/ or elevated temperature, we strongly urge you keep them home from the Academy.
If you have any questions about what is happening in our local community, how the virus is spread amongst children, and what to do if you or your child exhibits symptoms, please call St. Mary’s County Department of Health at 301-475-4330 or visit for more information.
We understand there are many concerns surrounding COVID-19 and want to ensure students, parents/guardians, and families that we are working closely with local and state health and government agencies for updates and guidance throughout this ordeal. For the latest information on COVID-19 and how it is impacting our local community, please call St. Mary’s County Department of Health at 301-475-4330 or visit You may also find the latest information from the Board of Education at
As always, we wish everyone safe travels wellness during this time of uncertainty. Take care of yourself and each other.
